First Day of School!

Well..........it went SUPER! I was really nervous and I don't know.....it just worked! The morning went somewhat smooth and we got there on time. I wasn't overly emotional (ok I had a good cry when I got home) Ava wasn't overly emotional. The transition was super smooth. I can't say enough kind things about the teacher Ava has. She's just the best! And her style and personality seem very similar to our daycare so I think that'll be a great thing for Ava. You can tell she's been doing this awhile and she just had her act together with knowing how to make things run smoothly. I was impressed and comforted by that. She even had some great suggestions on how to remind Ava what day she'd be going home with Jasmine and what days she'd be going to before/after school care....different color ribbons tied to her back pack - DUH! That's easy!

Our school does a smart start for the kindergarteners so this first week only a third of the class goes each day. That way only 8 kids are there their first day together and the teacher has a chance to get to know the kids more individually. It worked fantastically for Ava! She's easily overwhelmed and this was a majorly overwhelming situation but the morning was really nice. We were able to stay with her her for over a half an hour and settle her in and get her comfy and find a spot for her stuff before we said GOOD BYE! It made for an easy transition for everyone I think. The only big bummer was Andy got called away to work halfway through dropping her off so only Mason and I were there to say good bye to her. And poor Mason just assumed he'd be staying for kindergarten too! He sat down next to Ava on the floor when circle time was beginning and probably would have stayed the whole day if I'd let him. Ava came home way tired and passed out about six tonight for awhile. She's been slowly filling us in on her day. I dumbly didn't think they'd start PE the first day of school so I let her wear her boots.....she was told that she wore the wrong shoes. WHOOPS!  BAD MOMMY! But other than that it seemed to go well. I think what's going to be really hard for me is that you don't get the progress report at the end of the day like from daycare. The kids just came out the door and that was that which will totally take some getting used to.

On her way to back to school night

See ya!!!!!!

I had dreams of making her super cute sandwiches with faces on them and going totally bento style for her lunch..........yeah..........maybe next week!

All ready to go!

My big five year old girl - I can't believe it!

He can still be my baby, right?!?

On her way

She's room 1

It was a happy day

Ava was lucky to go to school with friends - the big deal was they got to play together THREE times today!

Decorating her star to hang on the wall in her classroom

All finished! Her picture will go in the middle

With her teacher, Mrs Bates

Poor Mae Mae - he thought he knew the routine and got to stay with Ava. I was so concerned about the transition for Ava I kind of totally didn't think that he'd be upset that he wouldn't be staying with her today like at Tekla's.

She's like OK I GOT THIS MOM!

She came home completely tuckered out!
