Commence the School Year

Last week marked the first week of 2nd grade and pre-K for Ava and Mason. Ava did awesome. She got the teacher she talked about wanting all summer long and she confidently marched her bad self into her classroom and has just picked up the stride where she left off in 1st Grade. We'll see how the reading goes this year but already I'm super excited for her.

Mason has taken a little more adjusting. He's been in the same daycare since he was 4 months old and in any new situation he usually has his sister right beside him. So, this time it's all him all day in a sea of unfamiliar. I'm learning my son is so very much like me and this is just a recipe for uncertainty and fear and it breaks my heart watching him have to go through the adjustment. He cried 3 of out of the 4 days he was there last week. But Friday I had a happy smile when I got there! He has so many different things he can chose from for the free play in the afternoon but he right now has decided he feels safer reading by the front desk "so he can be found when I get there". The first day when he was crying so hard I felt that emergency ice cream was needed. It perked him up.

Saturday, Andy and I took on the Warrior Dash! It was hard, guys. So hard! I haven't been doing much activity because while floating in the river in July I sprained or broke or pulled - I don't know. I messed up my ankle pretty good. Well, I finally have been feeling good enough to briskly walk on the treadmill so to go on this all terrain, steep, slippery, and muddy obstacle filled run was so epically challenging. I had weak legs and weak arms and it was kind of defeating. Especially when someone literally sat on my broken ankle. It's OK though. Can't win them all and I still ran even if I sat out half the obstacles. Andy however rocked it bunny style!!! I love that nut of a guy.
